2015 saw the likes of the camoflage: Supreme x Air Jordan 5 in camo, a few pieces from Yeezy Season 1, the surprise set of Supreme x Champion sweats, and of course the collaboration between OG camo brand Bape and PUMA. Ultimate gentleman and designer who champions comfort over aesthetic but never fails to impress, Thom Browne made sure to experiment with the timeless movement of camo, modern luxury and his own hallmark designs at Moncler Gamme Bleu’s F/W16 in Milan Fashion Week.
Each and every single piece from the F/W16 collection is camo printed in Browne’s iconic red blue and white, but this doesn’t deconstruct the greatness that each garment holds. Maybe it’s because the models are literally covered from head to toe that we might not notice the pieces individually, but looking at all 40 looks makes us want to look as steezy too.
There’s coats, pants, tops and bottoms of all sorts in the urban camoflage, but Browne’s sartorial richness can be seen among the handful of textures. For example, we can’t even begin to imagine how kushty we’d be, under one of those 2-piece fleece suits or slipping into a long fur coat with what I imagine to be a pair of leggings sewn with the silk of Egyptian spiders. Basically ultimate comfort.
This collection was created for the luxurious winter sports person, but does it matter if we want to wear it through all seasons? Thom Browne takes cold-weather layering to a whole new level, and camoflage is no longer worn to conceal your presence - it radiates it.
